Buying a dog or puppy in Tunisia

Before buying a puppy, learn about the breed: adult size, exercise needs, temperament and grooming. A Malinois or a German Shepherd does not have the same needs as a Bichon or a Poodle. Be wary of listings without real photos or with an unusually low price.

Ask for the puppy's exact age and, if possible, to see its mother. Require the health record with the vaccines already given and the date of the last deworming. Rabies is present in Tunisia: rabies vaccination for your dog is essential.

👀

See the animal before paying

Meet the seller and the animal in person, ideally at their home or in a public place.

💸

Never pay a deposit remotely

Do not send any money (transfer, money order, top-up) before seeing the animal: it is the most common scam.

📒

Ask for the health record

Vaccination record, deworming, identification: a serious seller shows them without hesitation.

🩺

Visit a veterinarian

Have the animal examined by a veterinarian in the days following the purchase.

Frequently asked questions

At what age can a puppy leave its mother?

Not before 8 weeks: earlier, it is too young to be weaned and separated from its litter. Be wary of a seller offering a younger puppy.

Which documents should I ask the seller for?

The health record (vaccines and deworming) and, where applicable, the identification certificate (microchip) or the pedigree for a purebred dog. A serious seller shows them without hesitation.

How do I know if the price is fair?

Compare with similar listings (same breed, same age) using the price sort. The price depends on the breed, bloodline, age and the care already provided (vaccines, identification).

What should I do after buying?

Book a veterinary appointment in the following days for a health check, the next vaccines and deworming.
