The first days, feeding and the first visit.
A kitten is ideally adopted from eight weeks old, once weaned. Prepare for his arrival: a quiet area with a basket, a litter box away from food, clean bowls and some toys.
The first days
Let him explore at his own pace, without forcing him. Maintain the diet he was receiving first, then make any dietary transition gradually over a week to avoid digestive upset.
One piece is enough at the beginning. A kitten who immediately has all the housing available hides and eats less; by restricting the space, we shorten the adaptation phase instead of lengthening it.
A well-socialized kitten between two and nine weeks of age generally becomes a balanced cat: increase gentle handling and positive experiences.
The first veterinary visit
Plan it in the week following arrival: general examination, parasite screening, start of the vaccination protocol and personalized advice. It’s also time to talk about identification and sterilization.
Note what you observe before the appointment — appetite, stools, sneezing, eye discharge: these details are often better than an exam alone to guide the veterinarian.
