A puppy's first weeks are decisive for its immunity. Primary vaccination usually begins around eight weeks of age, with a booster three to four weeks later, then an annual booster.
What the basic protocol covers
The basic protocol protects against distemper, Rubarth hepatitis, parvovirus and leptospirosis. Anti-rabies vaccination, compulsory in Tunisia, is added from the age of three months.
The antibodies transmitted by the mother protect the puppy during its first weeks, then disappear - and it is precisely because we do not know when they disappear that the boosters are closer together: one of them will fall at the right time.
Until the primary vaccination is complete, avoid contact with animals with unknown vaccination status.
