We often observe a jaw that appears crooked, offset or asymmetrical when looking at the animal head on.
The gecko may have difficulty grasping prey or chewing it properly, dropping its food.
More salivation than usual or an unusual odor from the mouth may appear.
Over time, we may notice a progressive weight loss because the animal eats less or digests less well.
Wounds or small sores in the mouth are sometimes visible if misaligned teeth irritate the soft tissues.

Diagnosis and care
Diagnosis is the veterinarian's responsibility, based on clinical examination and laboratory tests. Care is decided case by case.
The veterinarian carefully examines the gecko's head and jaw to spot any asymmetry or failure to close the mouth.
An examination of the oral cavity allows you to check the condition of the teeth and gums and to look for possible wounds or infections.
X-rays may be taken to evaluate the bone structure of the jaw and look for signs of metabolic bone disease.
An assessment of the animal's diet and living conditions often completes the clinical examination.
Treatment
Management is based first on correcting the diet, with calcium and vitamin D3 supplementation if a deficiency is identified.
An adjustment of the terrarium's UVB lighting is part of the treatment in many cases.
Depending on the severity, a veterinarian may suggest regular dental care to limit abnormal tooth growth.
In the most severe cases or those of traumatic origin, surgical intervention may be considered to correct the malformation.
