Nosemosis is a parasitic disease affecting the gut of wasps, caused by single-celled microorganisms called microsporidia (related to microscopic fungi). In the common wasp (Vespula vulgaris and Vespula germanica), it is primarily known through scientific studies of wild colonies, since these insects are not raised like honeybees.
The parasite develops inside cells of the wasp's midgut, disrupting digestion and nutrient absorption.
