Neglected tanks or ponds with accumulating organic waste create an ideal environment for intermediate host development.

Transmission

Transmission occurs mainly through the oral route, via ingestion of parasite eggs or larvae present in water, sediments, or aquatic intermediate hosts such as certain small crustaceans or worms.

The cycle may be direct or indirect depending on the parasite, sometimes involving one or more intermediate hosts before reaching the crucian carp.
