These are tiny parasitic crustaceans that live attached to the carapace, gills, or joints of the animal. They feed on body fluids, mucus, or organic debris.
This parasitic infestation is usually asymptomatic and well-tolerated, but a significant infestation can weaken the animal, especially if it is already stressed or debilitated, such as in captivity.
