Where can I adopt a pet in Tunisia?

On TunisieVet, listings are posted by individuals, foster families and animal welfare associations across every governorate. You can filter by species and region to see only the animals near you. Local shelters and associations in several cities also have animals looking for a home.

Is adoption free on TunisieVet?

Yes. Posting a listing and browsing animals is completely free, and TunisieVet takes no commission on adoptions. Some associations may ask you to contribute to costs already paid for the animal, such as neutering or vaccines — that is agreed directly with them.

How do I contact the person offering the animal?

Every listing has a contact button that puts you directly in touch with the person or association caring for the animal. There is no intermediary: you arrange the meeting and the terms of the adoption together.

How do I adopt a dog in Tunisia?

Browse the dogs available for adoption, filter by governorate, then contact the advertiser to arrange a meeting. Take the time to ask about the dog's age, temperament and history, and meet the dog before deciding — a dog lives ten to fifteen years, so it is a long commitment.

How do I adopt a cat or a kitten?

The process is the same as for a dog: browse the cats available, choose by region, then contact the advertiser. For a kitten, ask for its exact age — it is better for it to have been weaned and to have spent its first weeks with its mother before moving to a new home.

What should I check before adopting an animal?

Ask about the animal's age, temperament, why it is being rehomed, and whether it has already been vaccinated, identified or neutered. Also make sure your home and lifestyle suit the species and size of the animal, and that everyone in your household agrees.

Should I see a vet after adopting?

Yes, it is strongly recommended. A visit to a vet in the days following the adoption allows a check-up and sets up the right follow-up care. Only a vet can assess the animal's health and tell you which vaccination schedule suits it. The TunisieVet directory helps you find one near you.

How do I offer my animal for adoption?

Post a free listing from the submission page: add photos, describe the animal's temperament honestly and state your governorate. An honest description and recent photos clearly improve the chances of finding a good family, and prevent disappointment on both sides.

Can I adopt an animal located far from me?

It is possible, but an adoption always ends with a meeting, so distance genuinely matters. If you are willing to travel, contact the advertiser to arrange it. Otherwise, filter listings by governorate to see only nearby animals.

What should I do if I find an abandoned animal?

Move it somewhere safe and contact an animal welfare association in your area, or a vet who can check whether it is identified and trace its owner. If nobody claims it and you cannot keep it, you can post a listing on TunisieVet to look for a family.
