The first signs are often subtle: the animal moves less, seems stiff, or hesitates to jump.

The limbs or spine may gradually become deformed. Fractures may occur during normal movement without apparent trauma, as the bone is too fragile.
In severe cases, tremors, muscle spasms, or even seizures may appear, linked to excessively low blood calcium levels. The animal may also show general lethargy and refuse to eat.
