Intestinal roundworm parasitism is an infestation of the alligator's intestines by roundworms. These parasites live in the digestive tract and feed at the animal's expense.
This condition is common in captive-bred alligators, particularly in farming operations, but also occurs in wild populations. It mainly affects young animals, which are more vulnerable.
Most light infestations go unnoticed. However, an imbalance between parasite numbers and the animal's immune defenses can trigger visible illness.
