These organisms attach to the carapace, gills, or joints of the crab to feed on its tissues or blood (hemolymph). This condition mainly affects crabs kept in aquariums, rearing ponds, or captured from natural environments with dense populations. It is rarely fatal on its own but weakens the animal and can open the door to secondary infections.
