The infected crab becomes soft and unresponsive. It loses appetite and often remains motionless on the bottom of the tank or aquarium.
Abnormal shell coloration may be observed, sometimes with dark or reddish spots, as well as small lesions or wounds that do not heal. The legs can become soft or show tissue death at the tips.
In advanced cases, the hemolymph (the crab's "blood") may appear cloudy or foul-smelling to the farmer. Swimming and walking movements become disorganized before the animal dies.
